Witness Compassion, Gratitude, and the Healing Power of Love.

One of the things I love best about portrait, lifestyle and humanitarian photography is how I’m drawn to the beauty of the present moment. I’m not only witnessing the event, I’m a part of it.

When we regret, we live in the past.

When we worry, we live in the future.

When we simply surrender and experience, we're right here and now. This is where we experience JOY.

Portrait Photography, Lifestyle Photography, and Humanitarian Photography

You might wonder what the difference is between portrait, lifestyle and humanitarian photography.

Portrait photography is what you typically see with posed pictures. They’re often taken in the studio, home or outside. They can be lovely, and a staple of most photographer’s works.

Lifestyle photography is something I really love and gravitate toward. This is photography at the moment in the moment. For a lifestyle shoot, I go to your home and photograph what might seem like mundane everyday type things but are truly the moments we treasure. This is when I can capture the smirks, glimmer in the eye and what I call ‘goosebump’ moments.

Humanitarian photography is a method of showing something we might not otherwise experience. The camera is my tool of exploration, and in my world, lifestyle photography and humanitarian photography are close cousins. I capture stories that transcend a person's circumstances and reveal their true strength as in some of the images in my upcoming book “Just See Me-Sacred Stories from the Other Side of Dementia”.

Gracetta's Legacy of Love

Gracetta and her family contributed to "Just See Me-Sacred Stories from the Other Side of Dementia." In this video, Gracetta's daughters and compassionate caregivers take the opportunity to tell her how much they adore her. We know she felt the love.

This hybrid video slideshow is an example of the moments I capture for families. Gracetta has dementia and her daughters and caregivers recognized the beauty in even the most challenging of times. I stood alongside and within.  The experience will forever be a part of me. They trusted in me to capture the moments with compassion, kindness, and love. What greater gift could they bestow?

Family caregivers who are able to witness the love with a sense of gratitude during challenging times, also experience joy. Their tears are real, not always easy to see, and yet Gracetta continues to teach them about love even as they are grown. It was an incredible experience.
