I have a son, who is my heart. He is a wonderful young man, daring and loving and strong and kind. He is a loving husband-a loving man who wants to be his best. He is an Iraq War Veteran of the US Army Infantry. He has been home nearly 10 years and continues to heal. The Lone Survivor Foundation has been a HUGE help. He had the opportunity to spent time at the retreat center with his friends and also with his wife. We are all eternally grateful.
Nick Sterling, my son, spoke to the crowd twice at the event about how the Lone Survivor Foundation has helped him. The second day, his fellow veteran friend joined them. There were few dry eyes around and lots of love and support from the crowd. It was a Memorial Day to remember.
Friends for Life
Friends for life is how Nick and Adam refer to each other now. Another veteran, Adam C Martin (Blackbird Anthem is HIS band) was a guest of the Lone Survivor Retreat home and he and Nick became immediate friends. The two of them not only spoke but got to jam with an awesome band called Bag of Donuts. Yep, Bag of Donuts from New Orleans. I can't say enough about how entertaining AND how kind and generous they were. HUGE thanks to Bobby Hoerner (lead vocals, Cowbells & Percussion), Jonathan Hoerner (guitar, vocals), Jerry Christopher, Jr (Bass, vocals) and Kevin George (drums).
This video also has a few images of family who came in support of Nick- thanks to Allen, Shelly, Becky and niece and nephews. Special THANKS to Tim, my wonderful husband, for being there for us, capturing some video and being my driver. (The traffic around Houston freaks me out.) Spending the weekend with this loving gang was just icing on the cake! Nothing could make me happier than to know how loved my son is. The week-end was phenomenal in ways that can't really be expressed. We cried, we laughed, we stood in awe of the talent of our children, and we honored those who served and those who did not return home.

About the Lone Survivor Foundation
The Lone Survivor Foundation restores, empowers, and renews hope for our wounded service members and their families through health, wellness, and therapeutic support.
Overseas deployments and combat action can take a serious toll on everyone involved – from the men and women on the front lines to the friends and families who wait patiently for their loved ones to return home. Transitioning to post-military life, whether wounded in combat or simply adjusting to the civilian sector, will often cause difficulty for the service member and his or her family. We are here to help America's wounded service members and their families adjust to the effects of their experiences by providing an understanding and acceptance of who they are as a person, a family, and a community.
